FARR PRIMARY AND NURSERY SCHOOL BOARD NEWSLETTER

It has been a busy few months for everyone at Fan Primary School.

Children have enjoyed, amongst many other things....

    • an Eco measuring week in which they recorded the school’s water usage, weight of compost, electricty used and other ecological fmdings.
    • a French afternoon at the IRA with other children from our cluster — events included ordering food and drink and playing bingo — but all in French!
    • a four-week block of tin whistle lessons with the Feis Rois.
    • an annual health day at the IRA which included football, relaxation, shinty, boxercise, dental hygiene and circus skills to name but a few.
    • an event listening and learning about the Scottish Orchestra and Opera.
    • the schools’ annual sorts day was held, which despite the weather threatening to make it a wash out, held out - just!
    • an afternoon gardening with volunteers from the community beautifying the school gardens and grounds
    • the School receiving it’s second Green Flag! The assessor was hosted by Robert, Rupert and others - well done to all!
    • The P7s spent a week at Loch Insch with other P7s from our cluster to allow friendships to form prior to moving to the IRA in August. They also attended a 'Choices for Life' event in Inverness giving them information about staying healthy and safe.
    • Fionniagh Call and Bethan Raynes attended the Junior Road Safety Officer Conference at The Aquadome.
    • Eco committee members Rupert, Robert, Amber and Emily went with Mr Blair to an Eco Forum which included bicycle powered smoothies!
    • P1-7 enjoyed a science workshop involving a drama which was connected to recycling and waste awareness. Steve McDermott and his colleague from the Highland Council also visited to talk to the children about plastic recycling and played a large scale game with the children.
    • representatives from P4-7 enjoyed a very hot day out at Bught Park for an Inter-school sports day — well done to Luke, Fionnlagh, Samuel, Emily, Bethan, Rhianna and Rupert.

The Nursery have also been busy with

    • a farm trip to Mr and Mrs Matheson’s to feed the lambs and watch the sheep dogs which was fantastic.
    • A concert for mum’s and dads at Eden Court (a culmination of the Music Rhythm and Rhyme). They had sessions with Steve Sharpe — they had great fun and performed beautifully.
    • Taking part in forming a walking bus with other members of the school - the midges were tenors!
    • A visit from a community officer from Culloden who came with his van and showed his handcuffs and truncheon. They all went into the back of his van where the 'baddies' go - thankfully all were returned without the need for bail.
    • Making rhubarb crumbles and lettuce soup for the Eco judging day - Jamie Oliver watch out!

F.A.N.S organised School Fete was a great success on 17 May - the sun shone and all enjoyed themselves with stalls and a talent contest. Mrs Lamont received a surprise presentation for her 35th anniversary of being head teacher.

We’d like to take this opportunity of wishing everyone a happy holiday and wish those going into P1 and to the IRA good luck - we know they’ll do great.
