FARR PRIMARY AND NURSERY SCHOOL BOARD NEWSLETTER
SCHOOL TRIP
On the 12th March just after the dawn broke, (it did seem like it) primary pupils and staff set off on the train to Edinburgh for the day to visit the Scottish Parliament. The children had been invited to see their square tapestry, they had made last year, as part of the enormous Eco hanging wall.
Fergus Ewing SMP was impressed with the questions asked by the children when he spent some time with them as they made a tour of the Parliament Building.
A wonderful time was had by all!
OTHER TRIPS
The Primary 1 class and pre school nursery children enjoyed a morning trip to Raigmore Primary School to see the
Tooth Fayre. They were treated to an informative and funny puppet show about Nessie and her eating habits. After the
show, there was a fabulous feast of different fruits, breadsticks and drinks.
The Primary 4 - 7 classes took part in a European Quiz held at Milburn Academy. They did themselves and the school proud by attaining the highest score during the first round of questions. They were narrowly beaten in the semi finals. Well done to them!
Our Junior Road Safety Officers, Fionnlagh Call and Bethan Raynes went with Mrs Kemp to the first ever Junior Road Safety Officers Conference held at Inverness Sports Centre. The conference provided further training and ideas for these young responsible citizens to take the ‘Road Safety Message’ back to all their classmates and families.
CURRICULUM INSIDE AND OUTSIDE
The Red Squirrel Ranger has been giving guidance to the Primary 4 — 7 class showing them how to make a squirrel map of School Wood. She is returning in May to see how the children are progressing.
Susie Hamilton, the sports co-ordinator has been giving the older children fitness checks.
The Primary 4 —7 class have started orienteering in School Wood as part of their P.E lessons and are thoroughly enjoying themselves.
ECO MEASURING WEEK
The week beginning Monday 17th April was Eco Measuring week. On Monday morning the primary and nursery children assembled in the car-park to raise our Eco Green Flag once again. And so the measuring began The P4-7 pupils and some pupils from the other classes collected data for calculating the school=and nursery global footprint. The data collected included water usage, waste produced, electricity used, transport to school and the area of the school building.
All children in the school and nursery completed a transport diary for the week.
On Friday everyone took part in a Walk to School. It was a great success and enjoyed by all. It was so beautiful walking along the path beside the river for those walking from Inverarnie Stores and equally so, for those who walked along the much improved woodland path to the back of the school.
As part of continuing Eco activities the children are collecting their food waste for Mrs Douglas-Jones’ pigs. -
FANS
Over 21 children hunted for Easter eggs in the woods on the afternoon of Saturday 5thl April. What fun they had looking and in the snow too!
There will be a Concert performed by the school children at the Log Cabin in School Wood at 2.OOpm On Saturday 17th May, followed by a walk over to the school for the School Fete where there will be tea and cakes, games and a talent corner. All Welcome.
We were extremely sad to hear of the loss of Cohn Lamont. Cohn will be remembered by all of us for his generous plant and flower donations for our Golden Time sessions with the school children on Friday mornings and especially for giving the school Percy the Engine~ who sits at the front of the school to be enjoyed by all.
