Welcome
Strathnairn is the name given to the rural area comprising of East and West Daviot, Inverarnie, Farr, Brin, Croachy and Dunlichity.
Strathnairn lies on both sides of the A9 approximately 5 miles south of Inverness. (see Map)
Through its heart runs the river Nairn and to the east is Culloden Moor.
The area comprises of hills and lochs, farming, quarries and forestry.
Daviot Village just off the A9 is mainly known because of its prominent Church and its past association with the writer Alister Mclean
whose father was minister there. At Inverarnie on the road to Fort Augustus there is a shop and new Village Hall.
There are Primary Schools at Daviot and Farr, there is a large Private Nursing home called Meallmore
at Craggie and the popular Auchnahillan caravan site nearby. Dunlichity boasts and ancient Church dating back to the days of St Filan,
Brin a herb Nursery and a little further up the road is the Steadings restaurant and hotel, known also as the Grouse and Trout.
At Croachy there is a lovely Episcopal Church, St Pauls and a RSPB nature reserve at Loch Ruthven.
Strathnairn is a delightful area well worth exploring, with woodland and forest walks, a wide variety of wildlife and various pursuits
to engage in from walking to bird watching to paintball.
The area provides much interest for visitors, there is a wide variety of plant and wildlife,
and for those with an interest in clan history or, of the times of the Jacobites the hills and homes of
this area can tell a story or two.
The annual Farr Fair brings people from miles around to celebrate the local life of this varied community.
